Oppose

Oppose is my final project. In doing this project, I wanted to challenge myself with this opportunity. I desire to obtain a new perspective after working through the project, thereby, I adapted the perspective into the communication. Living the repetitive life makes me question myself every day, that why is it scary to change? It is all right to explore things that you are unfamiliar with. As I was advancing with the project, I realised that I needed to be more specific as a communication designer, so I decided to investigate topics that I can relate to the most.

Hong Kong is a problematic city and discriminations exist everywhere, however this statement is applicable to most cities in the world. It would be a valuable experience to dig deeper in the city that I grew up in. The target audience and location are going to be Hong Kong citizens. I wanted Hongkongers to be more aware of themselves and the surrounding environment; in other words, to understand themselves more thoroughly.

Since starting this project, I have been making changes as I work on it, even before the start of the pandemic. Although there are lots of restriction in completing the project, it allowed me to adapt whilst working; which is also the main concept of Oppose. The lock down definitely concentrated all those negative feelings into the middle of the project. It actually helped me to figure out what I enjoy doing the most. It is a shame that I am not able to work with the plan, but the pandemic is just another restriction and I need to push myself through it and work.

During the lockdown, the extra time has really helped me to figure my preferred working routines. I love the feeling from creating hands-on work, therefore leading me to the set of posters. I have decided to hand-draw all six of them. I have taken ‘Oppose” into the slogans; each poster has their own text that start with the alphabets from oppose. Each poster has one colour from the LGBTQ+ rainbow flag. The Chinese clown mask is also present: I wanted to show the idea that even if you think a character is not needed, the contribution of the individual is equally important for the overall content, and that everyone can loosen up and find the true value of themselves. Smile people!
